General
Information
Since 2007, SCORA's general
liability insurer is the same as
that of the Hawai'ian Canoe Racing
Association (“HCRA”). SCORA’s
policy applies to SCORA and its
Member Clubs.
Visiting Crews
All visiting crews must be from a
recognized club and/or association
and have proof of their own
insurance as is required by Race
Rule §3.2.1.
Also, it
is imperative that each member of a
visiting crew, its coaches,
skippers, any person on its escort
boat, and any person who accompanies
that crew in any capacity sign a
SCORA Release
of Liability form.
Visiting crews that are members of
HCRA need not provide proof of
insurance on an individual basis
because HCRA and SCORA provide proof
of insurance to each other at the
association level. If you are from
another association, and your
association is interested in
structuring a similar insurance
agreement with SCORA, contact
Michelle Cassel.
Insurance Certificates
Club-level certificates for 2008-09
were distributed to SCORA Directors
at the March 15, 2008 board meeting.
If your club needs to
make changes to a certificate, if a
typo appears on a certificate, or if
a new certificate is needed, please
contact Michelle.
“Waiver, Release of Liability, and
Assumption of Risk” Form
Member clubs are responsible for
making sure that all appropriate
individuals sign a 2008
SCORA Release
of Liability form. Release
Forms must be signed by:
• all paddlers who are
members of a SCORA club
• all paddlers who
participate in a SCORA race
regardless of club affiliation
• all paddlers who
practice with a SCORA club, even
once
• all non-paddlers who
get in a canoe for a ride
• all participants in any
SCORA event or member club event
• all coaches
• all escort boat drivers
• all passengers on
escort boats
• all vendors
Please be aware that this is not an
exhaustive list. If you are in
doubt about whether an individual
should sign a 2008
SCORA Release
of Liability form, please ask
them to do so. Also inquire with SCORA as to whether another category
of individuals should be added to
the list above.
Incident & Accident Reporting
It is very important to collect
statements and contact information
from all witnesses and individuals
involved in an incident or accident
that occurs at, or ancillary to, a
SCORA event or a SCORA member club
event.
An
incident reporting form is now
available. It is recommended to
keep these forms at your practice
site and any other event site. If
you do not have an incident
reporting form on hand when needed,
use common sense to gather contact
information and facts and leave any
lengthy analysis of the situation
for later.
Collect statements and contact
information as soon as is possible
and safe.
